Contrast Media: Safety Issues and ESUR Guidelines (Medical Radiology / Diagnostic Imaging)
This second, revised edition of Contrast Media: Safety Issues and Guidelines, presented in a handy, easy to use format, provides an invaluable, unique and unparalleled source of information on the safety issues relating to contrast media. It not only updates the successful first edition, but also contains a number of completely new chapters, for example on gadolinium-based contrast agents, meta-analyses in contrast media research and various regulatory issues. Comprehensive consideration is given to the many different safety issues relating to iodinated, MR, ultrasound and barium contrast media. The text includes chapters on both acute and delayed non-renal adverse reactions and on renal adverse reactions. All those questions frequently raised in radiological practice are addressed, and the well-known European Society of Urogenital Radiology guidelines on contrast media are included.
Review
From the reviews of the second edition: "This is a revised edition of the same title, first published in 2006. … covers the issue of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis and its relationship with gadolinium containing agents. … the book will be a useful addition to a departmental library as a reference source and a tool for dealing with some of the more obscure contrast media issues." (Mark Downes, RAD Magazine, October, 2009) "This second edition … provides new and updated information on the contrast-related safety issues that a radiologist can encounter in daily practice. … The book is aimed at radiologists, radiology residents, and fellows. Other nonradiologists and their trainees, such as neurologists, neurosurgeons, orthopedists, cardiologists, and radiation therapists who have imaging facilities and use contrast media, can also benefit from the information … . This is an excellent book that I highly recommend. It belongs in the libraries of radiologists and training programs." (Aurelio Matamoros Jr., The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Vol. 50 (11), November, 2009) “This is an easy to read and very informative book on the use of contrast media in daily diagnostic practice. … In summary, this is a very useful book and a highly recommended resource text for every radiology department, it should be easily accessible not only for the ‘old’ staff radiologists but most importantly for those who are in training.” (Giampiero Beluffi, La Radiologia Medica, Vol. 114, 2009)
From the Back Cover
In 1994 the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR) set up a committee to consider the safety of contrast media used for diagnostic imaging. Subsequently the committee questioned members, reviewed the literature, proposed guidelines and discussed these proposals with participants at the annual symposia of the society. The end result of this work was the successful first edition of this book, published in 2006. This second edition not only updates the previous edition, but also contains some completely new chapters, for example on gadolinium-based contrast agents, meta-analyses in contrast media research and various regulatory issues. The text includes chapters on both acute and delayed non-renal adverse reactions and on renal adverse reactions.
