Dermatology in Clinical Practice
This book gives an insight into the common cutaneous disorders, discussing the treatment in detail, and giving a number of treatment options where required. More unusual diseases and syndromes are only mentioned where necessary. The first line physician’s needs are kept in mind while writing each chapter, e.g. the chapter on cutaneous signs of systemic disease is described in more detail in comparison to other short books on dermatology, because physicians in the front line of patient management regularly deal with a vast number of medical problems. The book is designed to be short, clear and easy to read, with an emphasis on practical relevant information. It has been designed expressly to assist primary care physicians, residents and fellows in dermatology, and emergency medicine and other first line medical personnel.
Review From the reviews: “This is a dermatology textbook for general practitioners who need to be able to diagnose common skin disorders … . The authors appear to have put a good deal of thought into the layout and organization of the book in order to provide enough detail to be complete … enough to fit into a small, easy to carry book. … It is easily accessible, well written, succinct, and would be a useful addition to the library of any general practitioner.” (Kathleen E. Kramer, Doody’s Review Service, September, 2010)
From the Back Cover Skin problems are common complaints, as many as one in five of all primary care consultations are for dermatologic reasons, yet many clinicians find skin rashes difficult to diagnose. Dermatology in Clinical Practice has been created to assist all physicians, but particularly for primary care physicians, helping them in developing a methodical approach to manage patients with dermatologic symptoms. The authors focus on the common skin problems, and discuss the diagnosis and treatment of these disorders in depth. The book also details topical, systemic and the physical modalities used in treating skin disease, while The urare skin diseases are only mentioned when required. Cutaneous manifestations of systemic diseases are reviewed, enabling readers to correlate common medical and dermatologic findings. The primary care physician often refers cases to dermatology clinics for more complex dermatologic procedures, such as phototherapy, cryosurgery, and laser surgery. These procedures and a review of the diagnostic process leading up to their use are included in a carefully structured appendix. This book is a vital practical reference for primary care, family medicine, and emergency medicine physicians, in addition to nursing staff and other support staff involved in the management of patients presenting with dermatologic conditions.
